For the mountain or ‘off road biker’ there are numerous trails in the area around Lochton House to follow and enjoy amid the peaceful forest surroundings. The courses can vary in their challenge. Why not have a go at orienteering on a bicycle? You can follow the Kirkhill Forest Trail Quest which is 10 minutes from the outskirts of Aberdeen and a unique fitness challenge. The Southern White Spur is for experienced mountain bikers only. Nearer to hand is the Blackhall Forest which overlooks the River Dee near Banchory and includes Scolty Woodland Park, a popular well marked mountain trail. Scolty Hill with its monument at the top is a well known landmark for miles around.
For the more casual cyclist the Deeside Railway Line is a perfect route. The network of country roads is quiet and safe enough for you to enjoy cycling cross country.
Are you aware that you can take your cycle on trains in the Aberdeen and Grampian area free of charge? First Scottrail welcomes cyclists on all services subject to availability. You can use the National Cycle Route interchange stations to Stonehaven, which is… only 9 miles down the road from Lochton House!!
Lochton House welcomes cyclists. We have a cycle lock up area and there is a drying room in the house for outdoor clothing. Packed lunches are available with prior notice.
The visitscotland.com Cyclists Welcome Logo can be seen on the Home Page.
Should you need a repair, there is a cycle shop in Banchory (10 minutes away) where the staff would be very happy to help. There are no cycle hire facilities in the area so we recommend you bring your own cycles.
