Cambus O’May between Aboyne and Ballater is a beautiful Highland pinewood. Look out for the red deer and the Scottish crossbills as you follow the trails. There is a range of paths here which are designed to be more accessible for people who are less able.
Alternatively you may wish to explore part of the cliff coastal path from the Market Square at Stonehaven to Dunnottar Castle. The magnificent ruined castle is perched on a crag in the North Sea. Just south of Dunnottar Castle is Dunnottar Woodland Park which has a network of paths throughout although there are no formal signposts. Watch out for red squirrels here. Another walk which is not too far from Lochton House is Auchenblae which is 12 miles from Stonehaven.
